Mutations in the genes sel-1 , sel-9 , sel-10 , sel-11 ,and sel( ar40 )/" slg-1 " were isolated in a screen for supprcssors of the Egl phenotype caused by the hypomorphic lin-12 allde lin-12 ( n676 n930 )[WBG 10(2) p. 83 and WBG 12(2) p. 103]. As we reported at the 1992 East Coast Worm Meeting, these mutations also suppress the maternal-effect lethality caused by glp-1 ( e2142 ),suggesting these sel genes may function in both lin-12 and glp-1 mediated cell fate decisions. We do not yet know the null phenotypes of these genes, but they are unlikely to be Lag ( lin-12 and glp-1 )since these genes were not identified in Lambie and Kimble's (1991) screen for Lag mutants.
Due to marker effects, double recombinants, and some strange complications, some of our previously reported map data for the sel genes were erroneous. The revised (and hopefully final) map positions of these genes are shown below. These map positions are based on the results of both three-factor crosses and deficiency mapping with the deficiencies shown.
