Bob Edgar has come across the perfect Mac screen saver for the worm
world in a program called After Dark (Berkeley Systems, Inc., 1700
Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley, California, (415) 540-5535). It is
available from mail-order software companies (we found it at
MacWarehouse) for around $25.
The program comes with 18 different patterns that either blank the
screen immediately upon activation or eat away at the screen image.
The one of particular interest is called 'Can of Worms'. Although the
worms are segmented and don't exactly move in a sine wave, the image
is uncannily like a plate of your favorites. You can change the
number of segments (up to 20), the number of worms (to 20) and the
degree of wiggle. On a color Mac, the segments are different colors.
The other patterns include rainfall, random shapes, clocks strings
among others. You can also program your own patterns. The program
operates from the Control Panel like any standard screen saver, with
an on-off switch, movable sleep-now and never-sleep corners and
adjustable time delay.
